BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND (March 8, 2013) – While some of the biggest names in music, sport, fashion and media walked the red carpet last Wednesday at the Australian Premiere of the spectacular Cavalia: A Magical Encounter Between Human and Horse in Brisbane, it was the horses who were the true stars of this unique theatrical production, one which ended with a full standing ovation.
The Opening Night in Queensland also marked the 2000th show for Cavalia since its inception in 2003, a remarkable milestone as the Canadian-based troupe begins its debut tour of the Land Down Under. In celebrating the 2000th show, 2000 tickets have been donated nationwide to VARIETY, the children’s charity to enable families from disadvantaged backgrounds to share this magical production.
Australian wildlife warriors and international stars Bindi, Bob and Terri Irwin joined entertainment guru Richard Wilkins, Brisbane Broncos’ Corey Parker and Sam Thiaday; Brisbane Lions stars Simon Black, Daniel Merrett, Daniel Rich and coach Michael Voss; Brisbane Roar’s Besart Berisha and Matt Smith, leading food personalities Alistair McLeod and Ben O’Donoghue, stage royalty Carol Burns, fashion leaders Pam Easton and George Wu, Firebirds star Laura Geitz, super-triathlete Hayley Bateup and a host of leading media faces and more under the gleaming White Big Top - the largest touring tent in the world for the national premiere.
The true stars of the night however were the 44 magnificent horses and 36 riders, aerialists, acrobats, dancers and musicians from all over the world, who celebrate the relationship between humans and horses, virtually reinventing the equestrian arts. Reflected by the applause of the A-list spectators, Cavalia is truly a show unlike any other. Two thousand guests were drawn into a dream-like world, as the two and four-legged performers interacted on a colossal stage in front of a constantly changing 60-metre-wide digital projection screen.
Cavalia has already taken Queensland by storm, with Founder and Artistic Director Normand Latourelle announcing just last week additional performances for the Brisbane season, with matinees and evenings shows now scheduled through to March 31.
