Australia’s Favourite Horse

If you’ve got a 15hh Black Quarter Horse Allrounder with white blazeand socks then you’ve got Australia’s most sought after type of horse.

Recently we conducted a survey asking “if you could have any horse in the world, what wouldit be like?”

By and large the number one (14.1%) type of horse people want is a Quarter Horse. Arabians(9.9%) and Paints (9.4%) came in as the second and third choices. Australia’s Stock Horseswere up there too at 7.3%, just below Thoroughbreds who took 7.9% of the vote.

Niche Market horses such as Gypsy Horses, Clydesdales, Miniatures, Friesians, TennesseeWalking Horses, Paso Finos, Irish Draughts, Donkeys, Hanoverians, Haflingers, Brumbies andAndalusians were also represented.

Black ii the number one colour choice of HorseYard readers, taking out 22.5% of the vote andfollowed closely by Chestnut (16.5%) and Bay (15.4%). Grey and Palomino also rated above the10% mark.

A white blaze and socks is by far the most sought after (28.6%) pattern choice when it comesto a bit of chrome on our horses, but solid coloured horses are almost as popular at 25.8%.Paint horses come in as third choice for coat patterning at 19.8%.

The number one height choice of readers is the 15hh horse (23.8%) with 15.2hh a second at16.6% and 14.2hh a close third at 15.5%.

When it comes to gender, if you are breeding this season hope for a colt. 43.6% of peoplewant a gelding and a further 17.4% of people want a colt or stallion; that’s 61% that prefera male horse in general.

If you’re training horses then an “allrounder” is what most people are after.30.9% want an “all round” type of horse. Trail riding is the next choice at 15.4%.

And finally temperament is the overwhelmingly most desired trait a horse can have. 62.5% ofpeople identified temperament as their number one “must have” attribute.

well. thats very interesting, as i have 2 black arabians, one with the exact same markings as described in the favorites, but he is an arabian not a quarterhorse. i'm very lucky to have him :-)
