Horse Information - Path of The Horse

The story that I would like to share with you today is something that happened to me a couple of weeks ago when we were doing some filming. We were working on my new DVD that we are going to be bringing out showing the different personalities of horses and how each personality responds to the Waterhole Rituals™.

We had a horse there that is known as a fearful, shy horse and we needed to film one like that, to not only show his experience with the rituals but to show people what a fearful horse looks like. When we got the horse, I started to take him away from his buddy and down to the arena where we were going to be doing the filming. The horse was so fearful that it was clear it was going to be very traumatic for both of us just to get him down there.

So I thought before we start, I’d better develop a better relationship with him in order to make it easier on him. First off, I thought I’d take him to the barn and let him have some grain but when we got there, he was so fearful he could not eat. So I took him back to his buddy and once more he started to settle down.

My next thought was that I could lead him back to the barn again since he would remember the last time this happened and that it was OK because when he did this he got to see his buddy again. Well, I did that and that didn’t work.

So then I got a bucket, put some grain in it and took him to where he could see his buddy and let him eat out of the bucket. In a short time, this horse figured out that I was working with him and I was eventually able to lead him away from his buddy and let him eat at the barn where he could not see his buddy anymore.

I did not get him to the arena that day but we did make big inroads with him. I will still have a horse that we can film and show fear but at least we will both feeling much better about it when we do that filming.

So the reason I am sharing this story is that I want people to be a littlemore tender with their horses and maybe figure out ways that they could get their horse to feel better about what they are going to ask them to do.
