Being Present In The Moment

Here we are into another day and I have just finished working with my horses once again. I have been working with that fearful horse I was telling you about; the one I was taking from his buddy and his paddock to the barn and feeding him grain.

Well, he is doing really, really well. Now I can take him out of his paddock to the barn, and I don’t have to bring him back to his buddy anymore. He is happy to be with me and is learning a lot of new things. One of the things I have taught him is how to travel with his head really low.

He learned that surprisingly fast, although when I started with him he was really unsure about doing it. I fixed the problem, however, with the Uberstreichen Exercises that I have developed. These exercises were actually designed for a horse in a bridle but they are also very, very good for horses that are fearful. The reason that they work so well on a fearful horse is because they make the horse conscious; they make him be present in the moment. As you hold his head, he has to concentrate and this allows him to give up his fear and he begins to relax.

These Uberstreichen Exercises (which are coming out on DVD) work very much like when we go to a masseur for a massage. After the massage, we get off the table and how do we feel? We feel as if all the problems we had when we came in have just melted away and don’t exist anymore. That’s exactly what the Uberstreichen Exercises do because the horse gives up the fear and struggle and just settles in to being present in the moment, right here right now with you. As you probably know, when you do this, it feels really, really good and the horse experiences that too.
