Riding The National Trail To Raise Money For The RFDS

On 25 February 2012 Medical student Sam Alexander will begin his solo 5,330km journey on horseback travellingup almost the entire east coast of Australia.

This year long journey is designed to promote the importance of medical care in rural Australia, while alsostimulating much needed donations to the Royal Flying Doctors Service.

Following the National Trail Sam will leave Healsville, Victoria on the 25th of February and head north until theend of the year, aiming to make the completion of the trail in Cooktown Queensland.

“Along the way I will be visiting local high schools and communities to promote my cause,” says Sam. “All arewelcome to come along and if you are interested in joining me for a section of the trail or would like me to visityour school/community, please contact me.”

Join The Beginning Of The Ride!
If you are interested in Sam’s journey and would like to spend the weekend with him on the first section of thetrail, you can!

The plan is to ride off from the start of the national trail in Healesville (end of Donnelly weirs rd) and ride17km through amazing countryside to the first camping point.

Then you can either drive back home, or camp the night and complete the second day to the Black Spur outsideNarbethong.

For those who don’t wish to ride but would still like to take part in the send off, there is a Send-Off Lunch from10am to 2pm.

The event is also aimed at raising money for the RFDS and $10 per person is requested for the BBQ and $15 per riderfor the ride.
