More Participation In Hendra Survey Sought

NSW DPI isassisting the Queensland Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases and Biosecurity Queensland in conducting a surveyof Australian horse owners to determine knowledge, attitude, opinions and practices in relation to Hendra virus.

Results of this survey will help us to provide the most appropriate information to the most relevant sectors of thehorse industry to help minimise risks from this dangerous disease.

Response from the QLD and NSW sectors has been good but the organisers are seeking more input from other states.

It has also become apparent that some sectors of the industry are being underrepresented; these include (but arenot limited to) Thoroughbred and Harness Racing sectors, Agistment, Farm / Stock / working horses, Commercial(retail, transport, school, supplies etc), Veterinary and Para-Veterinary / Health care.

The DPI and Biosecurity QLD are asking clubs, associations and businesses to pass on the information and link andask their members to take part in the survey.

The survey can be completed online at: https://www.research.net/s/Horse_Owner_Survey_on_Hendra_virus

Horse owners can also access the survey via the Biosecurity Queensland website or the Biosecurity New South Wales website.

The survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete and is open to horse owners in Queensland and New SouthWales.

The survey closes on 28 February 2012.
