While Horse themed Apps in the Games / Entertainment Genres are exploding innumber on an almost daily basis there are still very few practical apps to assist horseowners in their day to day management of their stables or herds. Horse Medical Agenda is oneof the more useful and productive apps on the market.

Picture slide shows, pony games, racing games ... if it’s entertainment to do with horsesyou can get it for IPad, IPhone or Android.

But finding something useful has been a little more difficult. The FEI are slowly releasingApps for Dressage Tests and so on, but what about the rest of us?

Apps for IPhone still outnumber Apps for IPad, with just under 30 programs that cover, forinstance, the topic of horse training (things like ground work, riding (equestrian, trail,NH), problem horses etc). By comparison, there are just four for Ipad.

If you search for horse vet you come up with 16 apps for the phone and just one for theIpad.

That grumble aside I did find one useful App for Ipad – the Horse Medical Agenda –essentially a database type program where you can keep a record of all events related toyour horse.

Although the program is called “Medical Agenda” it also allows you to record quitea lot of other information about your horse such as age, height, sex, colour, weight, feedroutine, identification, contact numbers, training routine etc, giving you an overallpicture of your horse at any given time.

I’ve kept a database of all events relating to my horses for years on my computer. Withhorses coming and going for stud this has been an extremely useful thing to do. When anowner calls me and says “Hey, do you remember last year when ... “ I can pull the record upand give them the details straight away.

Horse MA takes this to the next level because it is portable. Instead of having toremember details when I return to the house I can just take my Ipad with me and recordevents as they happen.

However, I think this program has a lot of benefit for the everyday horse owner because youcan keep all your horse’s information in the one place.

As you would expect, being called Medical Agenda, the program can record everything from Vetvisits, vaccinations, dental, worming and injuries to surgery, farrier, and medications.

This is the version one release so I expect to see some improvements in thefuture (eg, a field for recording DNA and Microchip, or the ability to set reminders foryour horse’s next worming or visit from the farrier). In the mean time, it is practical,portable and very easy to use.
