Horse Rescued From Mud Bath

UK RSPCA inspectors have rescued a horse from a ditch in Erith in Kent after the animal became stuck in the mud.

RSPCA inspectors Becky Timberlake and Alana Chapman were called to a field on Ray Lamb Way in Erith, Kent, by a dog walker who had seen the stuck horse. "When we arrived at the scene you could only see the very top of the horse's back and head," said Inspector Timberlake. "The mud was really sticky and there was no way she was going to free herself. Some workers nearby said that the horse had been there since at least 8.30am that morning and she looked exhausted." To lift a horse is no mean feat so the inspectors called the fire brigade to help out. Firefighters from the Green Watch in Faversham got next to the horse in the mud and started to try and feed straps underneath her to pull her out. It took a couple of hours, but together with the inspectors, the firefighters managed to pull the horse out of the mud and a vet was called to check her over and administer painkillers. The RSPCA inspectors then stayed with the horse for several hours until her owner arrived and she managed to stand up and move around unaided. Photos & Source: RSPCA UK {sidebar id=3}
