Riding For Hard Cash

Rideability Victoria Doveton Centre held its annual ‘Ride-a-Thon’ week last week to raise money for the maintenance of the horses.

Ride-a-Thon week involved the centre’s students, from a range of different schools and centres for children with disabilities, to complete a novelty course on their horse. The riders each found sponsors for completing the course, with all proceeds going to the Doveton Centre. About 60 riders completed the course in the arena throughout the week. The centre’s oldest volunteer, Barbara Burger, 81, came in to help run the activities. {sidebar id=3}Ms Burger was one the small group who started riding for the disabled activities at Myuna Farm 25 years ago. Casey councillor Geoff Ablett also visited the centre during the week. Centre Secretary Coosje Dubach said figures had not been calculated yet, but they hoped to have raised more than $1000. “The money will go towards maintenance for the horse … that’s our biggest expense,” she said. “We need donations for things including food, vet bills, farriers and dentist. “We hugely rely on donations to keep running.” Anyone who would like to volunteer at the Rideability Victoria Doveton Centre can contact June Richardson on 5942 7345 or Ms Dubach on 9707 2301.
